I've been using my used p3 500mhz 390x 15"thinkpad for about three years now.
It's used, but still works and is in excellent condition it does (most) of
what I need, but it would be nice to get a newer thinner Thinkpad.
I've bought and sold a lots of laptops on ebay and I would have to say that
IBMs were the easiest to configure with no irritating surprises.
I'd love to upgrade to a newer IBM although I can't really justify the
outlay for a brand new IBM, especially since they've been taken over by
lenovo. I only hope that lenovo continues to make excellent IBM products.
The thing that I love about my 390X is that the keyboard is parked at the
very top of the layout which provides me with a large wrist rest. This
makes it very easy to type on the laptop on your lap as the weight of your
forearm keeps the laptop firmly in place. Other laptops have the keyboard
in the middle of the laptop which forces the user to us their wrists or even
the fleshy part of the thumb to hold the laptop down. If this configuration
had a touchpad it would drive me crazy as I would be bumping the touchpad
ALL the time. I've seen laptops with the keyboard at the very bottom of the
layout. I'd hate that because I would wouldn't be able to rest my meat
hooks as I typed.
Which brings me to ponder my next upgrade. You see, I've been spoiled by my
390x. In it's day, it would have been considered a sleek laptop (maybe),
but these days due to it's thickness, I would consider it more of a desktop
replacement. But I do like the 15" screen and call me crazy, but I do like
the 1024x768 resolution. If I were to upgrade to the next level resolution,
I may find that I wouldn't like the fact that all the program icons were
that much smaller, but that would probably be just something that I would
eventually get used to.
I've bought a couple of older A series laptops from IBM and I didn't like
them that much. The keyboard was more in the middle of the layout which
made for a smaller wrist rest, and I didn't like the "angled" keyboard
surface. I much prefer a flat typing surface.
I'd like to upgrade to an older T series laptop as it would seem that the
keyboard is at the top of the layout and anything above 1ghz would be fine,
something WITHOUT the Ultranav, just the touchpoint for me thank you, and a
nice bright 15" screen. Something with solid hinges, and reasonalby thin.
Does anybody know if this laptop exists? Integraged wireless would be nice
but not necessary
