[OmniBook] xe3 hard drive upgrade

Has anyone upgraded their xe3 hard drive recently? The 10GB drive in my 
omnibook XE3 GC is feeling ever more cramped, so I'd like to replace it. 
Also, more worryingly, it has on two occassions, made rather ominous 
sounds after the xe3 has been on for a few days, and ground to a halt. 
To my surprise Debian managed to start up successfully again each time, 
though.

So, any recommendations?
