From jcb+omnibook at inf.ed.ac.uk Sun Apr 13 13:20:41 2008 From: jcb+omnibook at inf.ed.ac.uk (Julian Bradfield) Date: Sun Apr 13 13:21:43 2008 Subject: [OmniBook] OB6000 screen and keyboard problems Message-ID: <18434.16617.718680.978875@krk.inf.ed.ac.uk> My long-serving OB6000, already having had a motherboard replacement, is now showing screen and keyboard problems. The screen problem has been happening for a few weeks - every so often, after some very minor shock such as picking up or putting down, the screen goes off, with green vertical lines, displaced areas, and bits of junk. This is fixed by suspend/standby and romnibook@zurich.csail.mit.edubits of junk. This is fixed by suspend/standby and resume. Once it failed complete, and I just removed the control panel cover and blew dust around. In the last couple of days, the keyboard has started locking up, and the mouse either locking up or behaving bizarrely (going offscreen at any touch). This is partly fixed by standby and resume, but right now it's misbehaving badly, keyspresses being lost or mangled. I'd like to think there was a single easy cause for this, such as a loose connector. Anybody got any more specific ideas than dismantling and re-seating everything? -- The University of Edinburgh is a charitable body, registered in Scotland, with registration number SC005336.
